HomeCrane modernisation & retrofit
Crane modernisation & retrofit
Many cranes are still mechanically sound, but their drives, controls and safety technology are outdated. Crane modernisation or a crane retrofit often extends their service life by many years – at a much lower cost than a new crane. MAZ Krantechnik modernises cranes and hoists of every make in Vienna, Lower Austria, Burgenland and across Austria.
Modernise instead of buying new
- Lower cost than a new crane
- Structure and crane runway stay in use
- Shorter downtime than a complete replacement
- More safety, fewer faults, better spare parts supply
Crane retrofit: drives, controls and safety
In a retrofit we renew the technology and keep the sound structure. Typical measures are new drives and frequency inverters for smoother starting and precise positioning, new PLC crane controls or radio remote control, new electrics and power supply, and up-to-date safety technology.
Increasing load capacity
Should your crane lift heavier loads in future? We first check whether increasing the load capacity is technically feasible. This must take into account the structure, crane runway, hoist, drives and safety devices, among other things.
Depending on the scope of the modification, structural calculations, a risk assessment and appropriate inspections before recommissioning are required. On this basis, we clarify whether and under which conditions a conversion makes technical and economic sense – and then carry it out.
Compliance updates and state of the art
We assess existing cranes against the applicable safety requirements and determine which technical adjustments are necessary or advisable in each specific case – for example emergency stop, limit switches, overload protection and markings. We document all changes for your crane logbook.
LED crane lighting
LED lighting on the crane improves visibility in the work area, increases safety and cuts power consumption.
How a crane modernisation works
- On-site survey: condition of mechanics, electrics and controls
- Proposal with sensible measures and costs
- Conversion on a date that suits your operations
- Commissioning, inspection and staff briefing
If frequent breakdowns are the main issue, our crane repair service helps first. For ongoing operation afterwards we recommend regular crane maintenance and inspection.
Planning a crane modernisation?
Whether a new control system, modernised drives, safety technology or a complete crane conversion – we assess the condition of your system and advise you on technically sound modernisation options.
Frequently asked questions
Modernise or buy a new crane?
If the structure and runway are in good condition, modernisation is usually much cheaper than a new crane. We assess your crane on site and show you both options with costs.
Can the load capacity of a crane be increased?
Often, yes. Whether it is possible depends on the crane and the runway. We assess this, carry out the conversion and arrange the inspection before the crane goes back into service.
How long is the crane out of service during a conversion?
That depends on the scope. We prepare as much as possible in advance and schedule the conversion for a date that suits your operations.
What does a compliance update mean for cranes?
Older cranes are brought up to the current state of safety technology – for example with emergency stop, limit switches, overload protection and correct markings.
Which regions do you cover?
We are based in Vienna (1110) and work in Vienna, Lower Austria, Burgenland and across Austria.
